You already own one or two Parkside battery tools and are hesitating to complete your set with a brush cutter? The Parkside Performance PPAFS 40-Li A1, sold at Lidl, operates on 40V thanks to two 20V batteries from the X20V Team ecosystem. This format places it in an accessible category, designed for the regular maintenance of a small to medium-sized garden.

600W brushless motor and electronic brake: what the technical sheet doesn’t say enough

The mention of “brushless” on the packaging often goes unnoticed. A brushless motor (that’s the translation) wears out less quickly than a traditional carbon motor. In practical terms, this means less internal friction, hence less heat and an extended lifespan.

The electronic brake also deserves attention. When you release the trigger, the blade or line stops in a fraction of a second. On an entry-level gas model, the motor’s inertia allows the cutting head to keep running for several seconds. This detail changes daily safety, especially if you are working near edges, walls, or flower beds.

Our review of the Parkside 40V brush cutter from Lidl aligns with this observation: for regular use on tall grasses and edges, the brushless motor offers a solid compromise between power and longevity.

The machine offers three speeds. The first is sufficient for finishing along a path. The third tackles dense grasses and young woody shoots. Three speeds allow you to adapt battery consumption to the ongoing work, which directly affects autonomy.

Parkside 40V: blade or line, two very different uses

The PPAFS 40-Li A1 comes with two cutting heads. The 25.5 cm 2-tooth blade is designed for thick vegetation: low brambles, grasses that have gone to seed, and shoots at the foot of a hedge. The 34 cm line head is suitable for edges and finishing around trees or posts.

Why does this distinction matter? Because many users keep the line head on permanently, then complain about the lack of power against dense vegetation. The blade transforms the tool into a real brush cutter, while the line makes it a classic edge trimmer. Alternating between the two according to the terrain fully exploits the machine’s versatility.

  • 2-tooth blade (25.5 cm): tall grasses, brambles, fine woody shoots. Clean cut, but keep away from hard obstacles (stones, fences).
  • Line head (34 cm): edges, foot of walls, contours of flower beds. The line wears out quickly on stony ground.
  • Harness included: distributes weight on the shoulders, reduces fatigue during long sessions. To be adjusted before each use to keep the back straight.

X20V Team batteries: the real economic calculation

The Parkside 40V brush cutter comes in two versions. The “naked” version (without battery or charger) is priced around 69 euros. The complete pack with batteries and charger is about 100 euros. The price difference guides the choice based on a simple criterion: do you already own Parkside 20V batteries?

The Parkside X20V Team ecosystem is compatible with over 100 tools sold at Lidl: drills, saws, blowers, hedge trimmers. If you already have two 20V batteries in your garage, the naked version nearly halves the entry cost.

Smart batteries: the 2026 innovation

Lidl introduced “smart” batteries in the X20V Team range in 2026. These models use 21700 cells (denser in energy than the standard 18650 cells) and connect via Bluetooth to a Parkside app. You can monitor temperature, charge status, and some performance parameters from your phone.

These smart 20V 4 Ah batteries remain compatible with the PPAFS 40-Li A1. The benefits are twofold: superior autonomy thanks to increased capacity, and better thermal management that preserves cell lifespan. The 2026 trend also shows a decrease in the price of 4 Ah batteries at Lidl, further improving the overall value for money of the brush cutter.

Concrete limits of the Parkside 40V: for which garden, for which use

This brush cutter is not for everyone. On a plot larger than 500 m² overrun with thick brambles or semi-woody vegetation, the autonomy of a pair of 2 Ah batteries will be insufficient. You will need to recharge or invest in additional batteries.

The 600W brushless power remains below that of a mid-range gas model. Stems over one centimeter in diameter resist, and the 2-tooth blade does not replace a 3 or 4-tooth disc found on professional machines.

  • Suitable terrain: small to medium residential garden, regular maintenance (every two to three weeks).
  • Unsuitable terrain: wastelands, agricultural plots, brush that has been established for several months.
  • Decisive advantage: quiet operation and absence of engine vibrations, perfect for use in suburban areas without disturbing the neighbors.

The lightweight design and button start also make it accessible to those not used to garden tools. No oil-gas mixture to prepare, no stubborn starter to pull, no spark plug to change.

The Parkside Performance 40V fulfills exactly the role for which it was designed: a cordless, lightweight, and quiet tool capable of maintaining a garden that is already reasonably kept. Trying to make it serve as a professional gas brush cutter would be a mistake. The right choice depends on the size of the terrain and the frequency of maintenance, not just the price.
